ReplyDeletehey, these are cool. when did the shaped canvas epiphany come and what brought it out?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the interest in the work. The shaped paintings came about mainly as a result of the natural progression of the compositions.
ReplyDeleteI started thinking about the possibilities of shaped work around the time of my mfa project where I cut out individual characters from wood for an installation. Also, around the same time I was working for F. Stella helping construct shaped panels to help mount large collages.
i see a connection to j. faunce in the newer works...
ReplyDeleteI think Faunce's work is fantastic. I first saw his work back in 2005 when someone else actually told me I should go see his show because of the connection to the symmetrical paintings that I was doing.
ReplyDeleteI love the black and white one. Absolutely love it.
